A Guide To Superhero Movie Releases In 2014

It was the year 2000 when Twentieth Century Fox approached Bryan Singer, a 35 year old director mostly known for a cult movie, The Usual Suspects and a controversial flick about a young boy’s fascination for a Nazi criminal (Apt Pupil), to direct the movie inspired Singer initially refused, considering comics basically crap.  He refused twice before reading the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comic, than he accepted creating what we can consider the first of the many new superhero movies of a new golden age. Since that movie both Marvel and DC inspired characters have had their moments on the big screen, with alternate fortune and box office success, and a lot of big Hollywood names (Sam Raimi on top) have directed amazing trilogies and given new faces and a brand new life to what was previously considered only a geeky passion. This year has seen some sequel predictably hitting the big (Iron Man 3) and some reboot creating whole new stories to well known and much loved previous cinematic versions (Man of Steel). But what about the upcoming superheroes movies for 2014. Whether inspired by classic  comic books or new graphic novels, let’s take a look at which new supehero films will see the light next year (and beyond) coming from the shelves of a comic book store. Directed by Stuart Beattie, The Pirates of the Carribean’s writer, I, Frankenstein will open the year of comics movie with a brand new adaptation of a graphic novel. Co-written by Kevin Grevioux, co-writer of Underworld (he was also an actor in the Romeo and Juliet of the vampires/werewolves movies) and creator of the graphic novel of the same name, I, Frankenstein tells the story of Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s creature Adam who still walks the Earth 200 years from his birth. Aaron Eckart, who was previously Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, stars as Adam The Creature and Dexter’s last love interest Yvonne Strahovski stars as Terra. In the movie also Bill Nighy (Naberius, leader of demons) and Miranda Otto (Leonore, queen of the gargoyles).
